The Lonely Rangers are and upbeat, home-grown “cowboy rock” band fronted by Ross Johnson and Johnny Sundby, who started playing music together in 1998, and have played over 480 gigs, large and small, and continue to have a blast doing it. Ross, originally from Hot Springs, is the owner of Ross Johnson Design Co., and also an owner of Rushmore Cave. Johnny owns Johnny Sundby Photography, Inc. and Samuel’s Studio, and is a past Rapid City Journal photojournalist. They each work with their wives in their respective businesses and each have one son and then daughter.
Playing drums with the band is original member and Realtor, Bobby Sundby, back in the throne after some years off to pursue other musical interests. On bass for over a dozen years is Rapid City’s own Dave Kramer who began playing music live in 1967 with many well-known bands. The Lonely Rangers are excited to welcome newcomer Greg McDonald on lead guitar and some vocals. Greg is one of the Black Hills finest lead guitarists and has played in many local bands including the Fort Hays Band, Midwest Coast, and the Suspects.
